Let The Countdown Begin...

Posted by CivilWar Fangirl

About 34 hours and 10 minutes left until the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the much anticipated seventh and final book in the Harry Potter series. And I, like millions of others, am trying to wait patiently for 12:01 AM, Saturday, July 21, 2007. It can't get here quick enough.

And of course people have to try and spoil the fun. I mean the jerks who have been posting so-called copies of the pages from the book or telling the spoilers on You Tube. Why people have to be that way is beyond me. In light of all this, I've basically cut myself off from all media and such (newspapers, Harry Potter websites, etc). I'll get back into the loop on Saturday once I'm done that book. It might seem extreme but I really don't want the book to be spoiled for me by some jerk who gets off by doing such things. It still could happen though, as we do have almost 43 hours to go until the book is released.

I've made my own predictions as to what I think will happen. Here goes:

  • Harry and Voldemort will both die. Honestly, as morbid as it sounds, I would prefer if they both died. Why? A friend of mine and I were actually discussing this point the other day. After all Harry has been through, it just doesn't seem right that he goes on to become an Auror or the Minister of Magic and live happily ever after with (dare I say it?) Ginny Weasley. On the other hand, Harry dying is very predictable...but so is Harry NOT dying. I'm saying it could go either way, but I'm leaning towards him not making it through.
  • Sirius Black will return in some form. Ever read the myth of the dog star? I took an ancient astronomy course in my third year of university and did some reading on the myth of Sirius. According to myth, Sirius is the bringer of peace and ender of wars. When he is killed, he eventually returns but in a different form. Oh, and all goes to chaos when he dies. He must return to restore order.
  • Remus Lupin may very well die as well (I know, my predictions are so morbid thus far). And who will kill him? The man with the silver hand, Peter Pettigrew a.k.a. Wormtail. In the myth of Romulus and Remus (Romulus being the founder of Rome and Remus being his twin brother), they are raised by wolves. This is not far off, considering Remus is a werewolf. Secondly, Remus is killed by his brother Romulus. In a way, Pettigrew was like Remus' brother at one time. And what is something that can kill a werewolf? Silver.
  • Dumbledore is dead. He is not coming back. Why else have they emphasizing in the books "Harry as long as Dumbledore is around, you're okay". I knew he would have to die at some point. And with him being gone, it's open season for the Dark Lord and his Death Eaters.
  • Snape is being controlled by Peter Pettigrew. Read the beginning of Half-Blood Prince. It seems odd the way Snape and Pettigrew are acting. To me, it seems very set up. I would have to say Snape is being controlled by someone, possibly Pettigrew. I also think Snape and Dumbledore had some kind of arrangement. If not, Snape truly is evil. One of my friends has suggested, he'll be a hero at the end. I'm inclined to agree with him.
Part of me is sad the series is ending. The other part hopes that J.K. will not write anymore books about Harry Potter. I think its time for closure and things are best left as they are. Harry Potter and all the characters will continue to live on in the wonderful world of fan-fiction.

I plan to start reading the book once I pick it up at midnight tomorrow. My uncle is having a special opening for it. I'm leaning towards reading it all night but we'll see how tired I am. I will also post pictures of the opening. We're expecting a big crowd.

I will post more thoughts later, probably after I have read the books. If I come up with anymore predictions, I will post those as well.
