I know I haven't written much about my internship on here (I know, I know...I said I would!). Anyway, in short, it is going quite well and I really would love to work in an archives when I'm finished (in particlar, the Stratford Perth Archives, where I already am. In a perfect world...). My story isn't about my internship though.

Right next to the Archives is a prison. Now, I thought it was like the jail here in Goderich and had been shut down years ago and was a museum. Nope, it's still operational. There are prisoners in there! It just looks really old. On the other side of the Archives is the courthouse. Put two and two together: they transport prisoners, sometimes on foot, between the prison and the archives! I saw this happening on Monday.

Tuesday is when the funny incident occured on my way home from work. Actually it was one my way to the car. So, I'm walking to the car with two of my co-workers. There is what I would call an armoured car parked outside the prison. As I get close to it, I can see the windows are grated and I can see the orange jumpsuits inside. Yup, there's some prisoners in there! As we walked by, they all started really rattling their leg irons and hand cuffs. Wonderful. I get to my car and realize I had left Garmin lady (a.k.a. Jeremy's GPS) in the Archives so I had to go back for it.

I'm walking back past the truck and I hear: "Got a cigarette?". Wonderful, I thought. I keep my eyes forward and keep going. I walk by them again to get to my car and I hear: "Baby, if you're gonna keep walking by us like that, can't you at least smile?". Great. I just shook my head and kept walking. It made me laugh when I got in the car. Apparently, I looked pretty serious as I was walking to and from the archives. Oh, and the chains rattled everytime I walked by...
