Some Gas Numbers...

Posted by Failsafe

So we went to Port Huron yesterday to get in on a great PlayStation 3 deal at Wal-Mart. I knew the gas would be cheaper over there, so I wanted to wait and fill up there. The car had a little under half a tank when we left and pulling into Wal-Mart, it had about a quarter tank. Here are some numbers:

Price of gas on the way to Port Huron: $1.26 - $1.29 per litre
Price of gas in Port Huron: 3.94 per gallon; 1.04 per litre
Amount of fuel pumped: 9.495 gallons; 36.08 litres
Cost of fill-up: $37.40

Estimated cost of this fill-up in Ontario (@ $1.27 per litre): $45.82
Money saved by filling up across the border: $8.42

Quite a savings on a fairly small fill up. Gas prices are all about perception though. Americans think they have it bad. They must just love it went they come up our way (and judging from the packed border crossing on Memorial Day weekend there are quite a few still making the trip over).

Oh yes, we encountered a little bit of luck. As we were approaching Wal-Mart, the gas stations along Pine Grove were pretty much all in the $3.93 - $3.97 range. As we were leaving, stations were literally just changing their prices to $4.09 per gallon (which would mean about 4¢ per litre higher). Nice!

Went on another States trip without telling me, huh? ;)

If you ever are over there, I'll just put in a standing order for Baby Goldfish. I still have yet to see them here.

I might want some more of the Gerber baby food in the plastic containers, too. Let me know if you're making the trek again.

That's the way the gas prices go over here. You can drive past a station one hour, only to drive past it the next hour and see it has jumped 5-10 cents. Still see a few for $3.97US/gal. here, but most are $4.05 to $4.09, with a few stragglers a bit higher than that.

Still gotta meet up with you guys in Port Huron, next time we get a free weekend. See ya!
