I take it Downtown Disney is a huge shopping centre and not one of the Disney theme parks. Is it attached to Disney World?

(Gotta love the music in the Lego store, too) :)

Yes, Downtown Disney is a huge shopping centre. It is on Disney World property and is part of it. It is free parking and there is no admission to get in, which is nice. Stuff is kind of pricey there, however (it is Disney World, after all ;) ). There are a few attractions there, like Cirque du Soleil and dinosaur adventure area (we didn't go in there cause it looked slightly busy). They also have a Build-A-Dinosaur, which is part of Build-a-Bear. I saw so many kids carrying around these dinosaurs they had made! Alex might like to go there ;)

And DisneyQuest. You guys didn't go to the 5 story video game complex even though you were right next door?

(Downtown Disney is supposed to be more of a shopping and entertainment complex. (though those lines keep eroding) It started just as the marketplace. It was really just a sort of outdoor mall with not a lot that was tourist-y. I think the idea was for the shopping vacation people to have something to do, like they used to cater to the sportsmen. But when when they added the nightclubs at Pleasure Island and the more modern stuff at West Side they needed a new name for the whole area. The marketplace side eventually was loaded up with hyper-themed restaurants and more family/souvenir style shops.

We saw DisneyQuest and I was slightly intrigued till I saw people coming out of it and they were all saying "I am glad that is over with!". So, it's a video game complex?

I remember when it was just a marketplace. It had changed so much since I was last there!I remember there being a play area for kids (which I remember playing at when I was about 4) but that is long gone, I'm sure! We're actually going to Magic Kingdom as part of honeymoon trip to Florida in November and I'm a bit worried at some of the changes they've made there; I've heard Pirates of the Caribbean has changed quite a bit! That's my favourite ride, too.

Yes, disneyquest is (or at least was at opening I have not been back since that first year) a combination of traditional coin-op arcade games, virtual reality games, and physical games of skill. I forgot that they went from pay-to-play to admission pricing. I don't know if that made it more or less expensive, though

I think you'll like the PotC changes, unless you hated the movie. It gives the ride a stronger sense of story as you progress through. Just stay out of the Tiki Room, though. Seriously. Promise me you will stay out of the new Tiki room.

Yeah, almost all of the sort of quiet slower parts of WDW are gone now - Discovery Island, River Country, The treehouses… Well that's market forces I guess.

Sorry, a bit of a big Disney geek and I grew up close enough to feed my addiction.

No need to apologize! I, too, am a Disney geek. I've been there MANY times (it's been about 7 years since I was last at Magic Kingdom though). I did enjoy the PotC movie (I haven't seen the last two; just the first one) but I still worry about the changes. I'll try not to think much about until I actually experience the ride again.

You don't have to worry about the Tiki room! I've been in there once and am NEVER going back ;). I think I was about six last time I was in there. So yes, I promise to stay out of the Tiki room (and I'll make sure Jeremy does too).

One thing that upset me last time I was there was they had taken away Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. My dad and I loved going on that ride! Probably market forces though, eh?

River Country is gone? I never went there but I always wanted to go.

Is the Swiss Family Robinson house still there?

When you say "tree houses", do you mean the ones in Fort Wilderness?
