So, a while back I made mention of my favorite pasta sauce that had vanished from Wal-Mart's shelves...EVERYWHERE. It was their Great Value brand (also labeled Tradizione) Vegetable Medley sauce ($2.47). To this day, there are three or four varieties of Tradizione sauces on the shelves, but not Vegetable Medley.
The best pasta sauce ever created
Forced to look at other brands, Mary and I have been experimenting with other kinds of pasta sauce (Wal-Mart, Zehrs etc.). Long story short, for one reason or another, they've all fallen way short. Some have been cheaper, some have been more expensive. They've all paled in comparison to our favorite.
Now, I was all set to call Wal-Mart and get to the bottom of this, when a new pasta appeared on Wal-Mart's shelf. It's another Great Value 7 Vegetable sauce. This one's only $1.77. The ingredients were identical and the nutritional information was very close (I'd say this one's marginally healthier than the first one).

Last Saturday we prepared the pasta the same as we do and added the usual mushrooms to the new sauce. I smelled it prior to heating it and was very optimistic. With everything ready we dug in. We both took one bite and looked at each other smiling. There it is! This sauce is, for all intents and purposes, the same as the old one. We were so happy! Now we can finally stop hunting around for lesser sauces. We've found it! All this and it's .70 cheaper than the old one!
